Classroom Teacher Exchange

The Fulbright Classroom Teacher Exchange Program provides opportunities for teachers to participate in direct exchanges of positions with colleagues from other countries for a semester or a year. To be eligible applicants must  meet a list of seven requirements at the time of application. The requirements are as follows:

  • be a U.S. citizen;
  • hold a valid U.S. passport (or be in the process of obtaining one);
  • be fluent in English;
  • hold at least a Bachelor's degree;
  • have a current full-time teaching assignment in the U.S. or one of its territories;
  • be in at least the third year of full-time teaching; and
  • have not received more than the lifetime limit of two Fulbright grants (Eight weeks or more = 1 grant; Eight weeks or less = 1/2 grant).

Distinguished Awards Teaching

Sponsored by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, U.S. Department of State, the Distinguished Fulbright Awards in Teaching program recognizes and encourages excellence in teaching in the U.S.and abroad. It is part of the overall Fulbright Program, named in honor of Senator William Fulbright, which promotes mutual understanding among people of the United States and other countries. The program sends highly accomplished primary and secondary teachers from the U.S. abroad and brings international teachers to the U.S for a three to six month long program.

Applicants must:

  • Hold U.S. citizenship and residency;
  • Be full time teachers or educators;
  • Have at least five years teaching experience;
  • Possess at least a Master's degree (or be enrolled in a Master's degree program at the time grant begins);
  • Demonstrate experience conducting and leading professional development activities;
  • Have previously received a teaching award or an exemplary evaluation by a school administrator;
