Scholarship Detail/ Requirements: The Sallie Mae Fund is partnering with the United Negro College Fund to offer scholarships to African American citizens, legal permanent residents or nationals of the United States who are enrolling full-time at an approved institution as defined as Title IV eligible, accredited, post-secondary two- or four-year college or university, vocational, or technical school in the United States or Puerto Rico for the 2010-2011 academic year. Applicants must meet the Federal Pell Grant eligibility criteria and have a financial need as verified by the attending college or university financial aid office.

    Students are eligible to be considered for a GMS scholarship if they:

    • Are African American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian and Pacific Islander American, or Hispanic American;
    • Are a citizen/legal permanent resident or nationals of the United States;
    • Have attained a cumulative GPA of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale (un-weighted);
    • Will be enrolling for the first-time at a U.S. accredited* college or university as a full-time, degree-seeking, first-year student in the fall of 2010; or GED

    Requirements/ Detail: Applicants must be lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, or queer persons. Applicants shall, by their completion of and signature on the scholarship application, certify that they are LGBTQ.
