Requirements:

  • Completed scholarship application form for 2010. Online applications are preferred.
  • An essay: a typewritten statement of no more than three double-spaced pages which must include the field of study you are pursuing and why you have chosen it, your educational and personal goals, your work experience (if applicable), extracurricular activities, and a statement about how the scholarship award will be used. (The essay must be in an electronic format and must be sent either by e-mail to jpacker@afb.net or by postal mail on a CD or diskette. E-mail is highly preferred).

Sertoma Scholarships for Hearing Impaired Students 

Award Amount: $1,000
Deadline: 4:00 pm, May 1 yearly
Requirements:

  • Student must have a minimum 40dB bilateral hearing loss as evidenced on audiogram by an SRT of 40dB or greater in both ears.
  • Must be a citizen of the United States of America. 
  •  Must be either entering college on a full time basis or currently attending college on a full time basis at a college or university in the United States of America.

Requirements:

  • The student must be a woman with a physical disability.
  • The student must be currently enrolled or actively applying to a graduate program in an accredited college or university in the United States.
  • The student must be active in a local, state, or national disability organization - either in person or electronically - which is providing services and/or advocacy for people with disabilities.
  • The student must be willing, as an ELA Scholar, to network with the ELA Board of Directors and the current and alumni scholarship recipients on our lists. This will enhance the ELA Scholar’s support base in professional and political arenas. 
  •  The student must be willing to update ELA with an annual letter on her progress in her academic and working career.

Requirements: The Reggie Johnson Memorial Scholarship is available to blind or visually impaired students seeking a college degree. You must provide a certificate of legal blindness or a letter from your opthomologist, two letters of reference, a biographical sketch, and proof of acceptance to an accredited institution of higher learning. You must also be a legal US resident to be eligible for this award.


Hemophilia Health Services Memorial Scholarship

Requirements: The Hemophilia Health Services Memorial Scholarship is open to full-time undergraduate and graduate students with hemophilia, von Willebrand disease and other factor deficiencies. You must be a U.S. citizen and demonstrate financial need, academic achievement in relation to tested ability and involvement in extracurricular and community activities to be eligible for this award.


Vera Yip Memorial Scholarship

Requirements: The Vera Yip Memorial Scholarship is available to college students whose lives have been impacted by cancer. You must be under the age of 35 and a cancer survivor or patient who was diagnosed while between the ages of 15 and 35 or you must have parents or guardians diagnosed with cancer while you were between the ages of 15 and 35. You must be attending or accepted to a four-year college or university and seeking a bachelors degree or higher to be eligible for this award.


Stony Wold-Herbert Fund Direct Service Grant

Requirements: The Stony Wold-Herbert Fund Direct Service Grant is available to students with respiratory ailments. You must have a pulminary problem, live or go to school in the greater New York City area (within a 50 mile radius), and be at least 16 years old to be eligible for this award.
